Meet Stephanie of Momtv! Another FABULOUS #blogher sponsor!

I met Stephanie when I started vlogging last year.  I had heard about a site that was for moms to upload the videos and share advice, funny stories, reviews, you name it, all in one safe place, NewBaby.com.  Later Stephanie and Maria Bailey launched MomTv, where you can watch videos on anything and everything and even see live shows…my LIVE show, The Hula Shake starts August 4th! Be sure to tune in!

Let’s meet one half of the awesome due that created MomTv…Stephanie Connors!

stephYour Name: Stephanie Connors
Your company’s name: MomTV and NewBaby.com
Your URL: http://www.momtv.com
Twitter name: @MomTV
Have a facebook page? http://www.facebook.com/pages/MomTV/111094486069

Describe your site: MomTV’s community for sharing video, audio, photos, and text blogs with other Moms and our LIVE streaming shows *over 40 now* by moms for moms with topics from fitness to cooking, parenting to multiples, saving money to knitting and more. We also enable moms to use MomTV as a platform to connect with other moms in real live video chats so they can share their passions and knowledge with others.

You are a woman entrepreneur…how did you get started, what made you take the plunge and go into biz on your own? I am a WAHM who for years worked out of the home in sales and marketing for start-up technology for media and consumer clients. I initiated and led over 30 product launches with world-wide responsibility for sales, marketing and support. I love technology and have been on the Internet since 1994 and used the latest technology to build presence with new media, digital publishing and Web 2.0 tools. MomTV was born from working with a client: NewBaby.com and watching how moms were embracing blogging, video blogging and twitter – it was only natural to get them together for LIVE video and MomTV was born.

What would be your number 1 piece of advice to other women looking to start a business of their own? Research the idea on Google. Create a brief powerpoint presentation that lists out what you are “selling” and then share it with friends whom you trust to get their feedback. Refine your idea and create a business plan with goals – it does not have to be iron clad but it needs to list out how you are going to market, what your value proposition is, what are the calls to action (what will make people click to buy etc) and get trademarked if you can.

Do you have kids? Yes am blessed with a beautiful and intelligent son and sweet daughter.

If so, how do you balance working for yourself and family? sometimes, there is none. Hard to be balanced without your family supporting you – so, make them a believer, engage them in what you are doing, and walk away for 3 hours to take them to the park or a movie… life is too darn short!

Let’s have fun…

What’s your favorite quote? “Well-behaved women rarely make history” Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
What do you do to make time for you? Massage – 1 hour of peace, quiet and reflection
What is one place you dream of traveling to? Bora Bora
What is one thing you never leave home without? my cell phone
What song would you play to get you pumped up for a big business day? I am Woman – Carly Simon

Let’s get crazy…
What is one daring thing you’d add to your bucket list? (ie sky diving, scuba diving, getting a tattoo etc etc) Maybe you’ve already done it! Share!
Getting a Tattoo and I got it and am getting another one soon… OOOOh! My friends all died and one even said, “Do you know that’s permanent?” Yeah, seriously. It is a Mom and baby dolphin jumping out of the water – I’m a sailor and they are good luck… next one will be a mermaid with starfish under her and down my arm…. crazy me.

Let’s get smart…
What are you reading right now?
I read so much business trade, hate to say my pleasure is murder mysteries and Williams-Sonoma catalogs!
What is your fave book of all time? On the Beach – Nevil Shute, read it in high school and never forgot it – chilling story about an Australian town awaiting death from the effects of an atomic war. Scared me so much – made me want to travel to Australia (I did in 2005 for 2 weeks). I think this novel should be read by everyone – you will think twice about your choices.

What are three web sites you must visit each day? Or what are your fave blogs/business blogs? I love to visit the community at MomTV to see what new videos and postings there are from hundreds of mom bloggers, I read through the over 100 mom bloggers that I follow on my Google Reader, and I visit Media Post or eMarketer – so I can keep up with what’s going on in business.

I’ll be sharing my Blogher videos over at MomTv and I bet a bunch of others will too, so hop on over and check them out!  Thanks Stephanie for creating these fantastic outlets for Moms!
