We’re Headed to Disneyland!

I don’t think I’ve shared with you all officially, but we are leaving back to California for two full weeks, next week!  Tuesday to be exact!  And after a long flight with two kids (yes I am already feeling a tad anxious over it) and after two kids with unending amounts of energy being cooped up on a plane, I think a trip to Disneyland will be the perfect prize to get us all through it. I wonder how many times I will have to remind them… “Sit down….remember we’re going to Disneyland!” “oh no, please don’t pull the person’s hair in front of us…remember we’re going to Disneyland!” “STOP kicking the chair!…Remember, DISNEYLAND!” (yes I might be screaming) Maybe I will just start chanting, “Disneyland, Disneyland, Disneyland” Noone will think I’m crazy, right?!

I wonder if someone will run up to me with a magic microphone as we de-board the plane…I can see it now…

Announcer’s voice: “Sarah, you just survived 5.5 hours with two kids, running crazily through the aisles on Hawaiian Air.  You have had to shove yourself and your child into the smallest bathroom on earth all while avoiding touching anything, and perhaps you have had to console your crying child all the while deflecting bad looks from those passengers who either don’t have kids or do and totally forget what it was like….What are you going to do now?”

Me: “I’m going to Disneyland!!” (that is, after I get a big juicy In-N-Out burger the second we get out of the airport…oh yes, I have a long list of things I must eat while in California)

Yes, awesome Disneyland is giving us tickets to come and visit the magic kingdom and California Adventure!  I think my kids are almost as excited as I am!

I grew up in Orange County, land of Disneyland.  I didn’t go as much as one would think a native OC-er would.  Isn’t it sad how we become complacent with the cool things around us and don’t truly enjoy them until we no longer have them…that’s me.

This will be Leah’s first time and I can’t wait to see her face light up at the sight of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. And Cameron has already made a request to go chill at Mickey’s house and ride the roller coaster in Toon Town.

And how funny is this…he said the first thing he wants to do is go on the under water ride to see Nemo.  Now people, we LIVE in Nemo land, we have an actual submarine that he’s gone on – it’s the real deal, it dives under water and has REAL fish swimming around us and that’s STILL his first request…to go on the Nemo ride.

Stay tuned, I’ll be sharing our whole adventure AND we got invited to Mickey’s Trick or Treat Party too!  Oh my gosh, I’m feeling like 5 year old all over again!

Have you been to Disneyland?  What’s your fave thing to do?

Or do you want to go to Disneyland? What would you want to see?! Share with me!

Disclosure, in case you didn’t catch where I told you that Disney gave us tickets…..Yes, Disney has given us four tickets {thank you Disney!}.  Stay tuned for my full review of Disney after we return!

  1. I’m SO jealous. I have been dreaming of taking my children there. My oldest is 20 and we never made it :( I now have 3 younger children but we can’t seem to scrap enough to afford it. Maybe one day. ENJOY I’ll live through your experience.

  2. sounds exciting! we’re going to san diego this fall and i’ve been debating if we should make the drive to disney for a day. i know my daughter would go crazy for it – i have such amazing memories of the trip to disneyworld with my parents, and i want the same magic for her!
    enjoy your trip!

  3. How exciting! You’ll have a wonderful time and bring back memories of a lifetime!

Living on the east coast, my family has never been to California, and it’s on my Bucket List of things to do! We’ve taken the kids to DisneyWorld when they were younger. They’re 22 & 26 now. What we’d like to do with my oldest daughter is take her and her family to Disney so we can enjoy seeing it through the eyes of our grandkids! Makes me weepy to think of the good times we had when our kids were younger!

  4. Wow, I’m so excited for you! I’ve never been to Disneyland, but my family LOVES Disney World. I know what you mean about feeling as though you’re five years old again: I love the Winnie the Pooh ride and getting hugs from Mickey as much as any kid!

I hope your daughter’s first Disneyland visit is as magical as my son’s first time at WDW. I will always, always remember the first time he saw the characters. He hesitated for a moment, then ran up to Tigger and started bouncing with him. My husband and I remember that as clearly as we remember the first time our son walked and talked!

  5. That is so exciting Sarah! I have never been to Disneyland, but I have been to Disney World twice. Once around 4 years old and again back in 2001, where I ended up being engaged. I had such a blast in 2001, the hubby and I rode on the Buzz Lightyear ride a bunch of times because we thought it was so much fun. And yes, we had no kids at the time. So I can’t wait to bring all my boys there someday. I know they will love it! And you know, Disney World has a not so nice title of being one of the world’s largest polluters (if not THE largest) so I would love to find out what steps they are taking to correct that.

Have fun Sarah, I can’t wait to hear all about it and see some pictures!

  6. We’re leaving for Disney World – tomorrow! I am so excited. I definitely think I’m more pumped than the kids because they really have NO IDEA how cool it is, you know? I can’t wait!, but oh my gosh we have so much to do before we leave!

Can’t wait to hear about your trip!

  7. You guys will have a great time. The weather has cooled down the past week and it will be quite nice. The Halloween decorations are awesome and unbelievable.

  9. Sarah, the description of your “I’m going to Disneyland!” moment is cracking me up! It will be well worth the plane ride, so just keep chanting “DisneylandDisneylandDisneyland” to yourself!

I went to Disneyland for the very first time a few years back. I had a blast! It’s hard to pick a favorite…all the rides were great, and it was so fun to just explore everything! The Haunted Mansion stands out as being especially neat, as was the Pirates of the Caribbean.

And Kimberly – I can empathize with what you’re saying. I lost my mom six years ago, and it makes those happy moments very bittersweet.

  10. I forgot to add I’m so jealous you get to see the Nemo attraction! I saw it on TV and it looks AWESOME!!!

Please take plenty of pictures and video if you can. I think there is a part where the turtle (can’t rember his name – it’s on the tip of my tongue!) intereacts with the kids in the audience. How cool is that!

  11. Thanks Sarah. I appreciate that a lot.

Disney DOES have that magical power, doesn’t it. It’s like the moment you take that first step into the Magic Kingdom you can’t help but have a smile like the Cheshire cat. Even adults are suddenly kids again (those Disney commercials are SO TRUE with the parents who turn into kids).

We watch the video we made every year to relive it all. We even kept a few Disney dollars from the stroller rentals for if/when we were ever blessed to go back again.

Sadly every time we try and go back “life” happens (need a new transmission, have to pay the Orthodontist for braces, need to get another used car…). My husband and I always say when we have a huge expense “Well maybe we’ll get to Disney NEXT year”. Ha ha… we have been saying that for years.

I just hope we can get down there again before the kids get too much older. I don’t know how easy it will be to get teenagers to ride on Dumbo just to make their mom happy. LOL.

  12. How fun! I’m looking forward to reading about it. As a Floridian, I always have that “itch” to go to Disney World. Like you with the burger in Cali, my son ALWAYS demands a Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream treat when we first get to Disney. It really is magical, though. I hope you and the kids have tons of fun!!!!

  13. Oh Kimberly, now you have me in tears. It’s amazing how Disney makes everyone so happy that we wish our children (or grand children) to see it too and it means so much to us just to see their faces, so full of happiness and joy and excitement!

That is the magic of Disney, huh?

    I KNOW you will get to take the kids back and relive that moment you had with your mom someday soon. I am so sorry for your loss…I cannot imagine losing my mom. {{{hugs}}}

I will be thinking of you and your mom when we visit. xoxo

  14. Not to be a downer but my mom always dreamed of seeing the grandkids (my kids and my sister’s kids) riding on Dumbo. Years ago my mom paid to fly my family, my sister’s family and herself to Disney. She was SO HAPPY to see the kids riding on Dumbo and having a wonderful time. She even got brave and went on the Tea Cups with the kids (who were little) and they spun her around so much. You can tell she was getting dizzy but she didn’t mind because she was making a memory with them.

My mom passed away the following year. We feel that some how she knew, deep down inside, that she had to make her dream a reality. Why else did she fly us all there?

Whenever I see the Dumbo ride or the Tea Cups I can’t help but smile and shed a tear.

The kids were so little then and barely remember anything about Disney except bits and pieces. We hope and pray that some day we can go back. Now it means a lot to ME to see my kids back on the Dumbo ride together and go for a spin with my children on the Tea Cups. I know how important it was for my mom, and it’s important to me too.

Sorry to be a downer. When ever I think about Disney I think of my mom. From Disnely Land to Disney World and Disney movies. They all bring back great childhood memories and memories of mom.

I’m so happy for your family! Thank you for sharing your experiences with your readers. Maybe some day I can write about my families experiences there too. Someday…

  15. Have fun!!!! Ride the tea cups for me!! So lucky they gave you tix!!!

  16. Oh, how exciting! I would love to take the children to Disney, but don’t think its in our future. Have fun and I can’t wait to hear all about it.
