Help Me Get My “Audrey” Back and Channel ‘Funny Face’ {vote!}

1245705148764_fAhh, Funny Face, one of the best movies of all time.

Have you seen the movie?  Audrey Hepburn plays Jo, a normal girl working in a bookstore who gets spotted by a photographer, Dick (played by the marvelous Fred Astaire)and becomes a model, goes to Paris, falls in love…ahhhh, I LOVE that movie.  And I love Audrey.   I think all women do.

I’ve loved miss Audrey since I was younger.  I watched her movies, had her posters framed in my room.  Friends would give me books about her or her movies for my birthday or Christmas gifts.  I mean, Audrey Hepburn, who doesn’t love her?  She was an amazing woman with an amazingly demure yet powerful presence.

I have always been a little bit hippy with a mix of Audrey.  A little bit girly girl, sophisticated, conservative with a touch of flower child dresses and jeans with holes in them and flip flops on my feet.  I love tie dye and woven, organic goods.  But I also love the little black dress or a nice suit with some killer heals and a nice bag to match.

A hippy Audrey, that’s me.

But in recent years I have to say, I feel like I am losing my Audrey.

So when Trisha over at MomDot posted about Good Housekeeping looking for a few good moms for a make over. I sent in my picture so fast, there was smoke coming off of my keyboard.

“Help me get my Audrey back!”  I blurted through email.

I received back some good and bad news.  First the bad…they were looking for people in the New York area.  Well, heck, I am the farthest from there.  Damn! And the other bad news, that was actually good news, was that they thought I wasn’t in need of a makeover and complimented me.  Well, that was nice! {thank you!}

Isn’t it interesting how we can feel like we look tired, we know that we simply aren’t taking care of ourselves or feel like perhaps we’re losing some of that “old you” (or Audrey in my case) and then someone comes and tells you, nope, “you are pretty” and it can make you feel a tad bit better?

I did. I won’t lie.  But I’d still die for a makeover! HA!

And then, as fate would have it, up popped this contest from e.l.f. cosmetics.  They are  searching for models to be the face of e.l.f. for 2010. The fabulous news is that you need not be a model, a young thang, or a tall amazon woman.  No, they are looking for women of ALL ages, teens through 40+ and it’s for a makeup model, not a runway model so no height requirements!  woohoo! (I’m only 5’2″)

I thought, well hell, if I’m not a fit for a makeover, maybe I can be a fit for a makeup model…one can dream right?  I also thought, oooh, this is the perfect opportunity for a short woman over 30 to finally get her Audrey back and perhaps become “Funny Face”.

It may not include a trip to Paris but if I won I could make it to New York (finally!).

You only live once and if I don’t enter then my chances are ZERO. If I do enter, well my chances are 1 in a million…but that’s still more than zero ;)

I don’t have professional pics like many of the others that entered but neither did Jo in Funny Face.

So you wanna help this mama find her Audrey and follow in the footsteps of Funny Face and be discovered?  Well, you can!  And you can do it every single day, once a day until the end of December, by voting here.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  2. Sass,
    Go for it – you are truly beautiful – your facial contours and alignment of your eyes and nose etc. are total model quality (this from a JRP Modeling School grad!) so I will definitely vote everyday for you! (and ask my friends to do the same too). Growing up I was also told I resembled Audrey, a cross between Audrey, Sophia and Claudia (Hepburn, Loren and Cardinale – look that one up!) My girls got it too! Good luck to you!

    Oh, and Cindy – please post a picture!

  3. Voted for you!

    Actually, people have told me all my life that I looked like Audrey Hepburn!

    I dream of having a make over. I hate the way I look. I won’t even look in mirrors. I watch those make over shows all the time and dream I could be one of them.

    Audrey was so pretty and classy too!

    GOOD LUCK!!!! I’m heading over to vote right now.
