I wish money grew this easily

We bought a sunflower potting kit at Thetreecenter.com the other week and they have taken off!  We just transplanted them this morning and while I hope these grow tall and flower so the kids  can see the full cycle, there is a strong possibility I may kill them (the plants, not my kids).  Thankfully my kids seem to have a greener thumb than me….so the sunflowers may have a chance.

After just one week, look at how these puppies went from seeds to actual green, leafy plants, I think the polycarbonate sheet has worked perfectly! We may give some veggies a try next. I think we’ve been bitten by the gardening bug.

I only wish money grew this easily!

Do you garden with your kids?  What have you grown?

  1. I love sunflowers! They are VERY easy to grow! But you have to be nice to them or they don’t grow big. LOL. I had stunted ones before. But I think everything will grow nice and big in Hawaii. The hibiscus are HUGE there.

  2. I love Sunflowers. Last year I grew some with my four year old grandson in my yard. He was so happy and proud to help and watch them grow. I was so sad when they grew about 12 inches and squirrels got to them and they were all chewed up. I don’t know what to do to keep the squirrels away.

    • @Janet F,

I don’t know about squirrels, but right after I took these pics, our puppy took a chomp out of a few sunflower babies..the stinker!

  3. How exciting. I love flowers! Unfortunately not much grows in the clay here in GA without a heck of a lot of work.

  5. Nice! My sister grows sunflowers every summer. They usually get around 7 feet tall. So be warned! :)
We’re growing tomatoes this year because my girls eat them like candy.
