The Preschooler and Her Big Brother

Today my youngest, my baby, my last born started preschool!  She has left the nest and flown out into the world! She had a great day, with just a few tears (I think she did that on my behalf. You know, to let me know she kinda sorta missed me…) but the tears dried up quickly and away she went!

Meanwhile at home a big brother was rather nervous for his little sis. (he doesn’t start school for another couple of weeks – we’re enjoying the mommy and son time)

From the very concerned BIG brother…

9:00 a.m. (after we drop her off, in the car)  “I think Leah may be crying right now, Mom.  Like, I can feel it.”

Noon  “I can’t stop thinking of Leah, Mom. I bet she’s eating lunch right now.”

2 p.m.  “Mom…there’s something missing in this house.  I know, it’s Leah!”

No joke.

He even wanted to get her a present to celebrate her first day at school.  (truth be told…I think he thought if Leah got a present, then I’d feel bad and get him a present. Ulterior motives were at work here, I am certain!)

In any case, I’ve got myself one Cool New Preschooler and One Proud Big Brother. And the combination is melting my heart!

That is so sweet that big brother was concerned for his sis. And you gotta love the “Yeah, I’m a big kid now” expression in the pic.

That’s very sweet. So, did he get her a gift? I’ll be sending my oldest to preschool in a few weeks. I’m a wreck whenever I think about it too much but I know he needs more social interactions and structure. Any tips for a first timer?

@Melissa, Isn’t it exciting but sad all at the same time?! Tips…hmmm, I say drop and go. Meaning get them to school, check it out with them or get them playing with something then give a gentle kiss, say goodbye and leave. As hard as it may be… tears or no tears.

They will be ok! (I repeat this to myself every time I drop them off ;) )

@Karen R, Yes it went like this…someone pushed her, but it’s her “friend!”, she got ants on her when she picked a hibiscus flower and the back of her dress fell into the toilet when she was trying to go pee :( …so she had to change. She came home with a new attitude and independence, I swear to god! :) And that’s only after one day at preschool…lord help me!

Awww She’s just too precious! Well, Mom all I can say is they all have too leave the nest some time. It’s all a part of life & the big bro’s feelings is all a part of it too! What a dear little man! You have a wonderful family bond there.

Sarah, this post absolutely melted my heart. My toddler and infant are still a bit away from school, but I’m so looking forward to moments like these.
