Uplifted in Upcountry…a day trip to Kula

Just a short hour or so ride from the West side of Maui are cooler temps, gorgeous green forests, elevation that will make your ears pop and the wonderful Kula Lodge. Situated literally on the side of the Haleakala volcano, Kula lodge is the perfect place to make a stop, grab some grub, take in the view and feel one with nature.

We headed over there this past weekend. Here are some pics. Bottom line, it’s pretty freaking cool (as in awesome!) in Kula…

The view from our table

That’s the top of the “chimney” from the outside wood burning pizza oven.

we enjoyed some kula onion soup

and went for a walk around the garden

aloha from kula!

In addition to just a really great atmosphere and gorgeous flowers and grounds, Kula Lodge also has an art gallery tucked down below with a rock walled staircase leading you to the color splashed canvases. There’s also the Kula Marketplace which sits adjacent to the lodge and has really amazing local goods, from jams to goat cheese to locally made beauty products and jewelry.

I tell ya, a visit to Kula Lodge was a great way to spend a Saturday!

  1. I LOVE kula lodge-can’t wait to go again
    It’s nice having a fireplace:)

    • @mom’s Best bets, and to wear a jacket…we don’t get to do that often around here! :)

Let me know when you are on Maui next! Hope you are doing well! xoxo

  2. Looks like you had fun! I’m so glad you posted this because I miss Kula! And Maui in general. :) Though, I never went to Kula Lodge.

  3. Your images are truly beautiful!

  4. My family vacationed on Maui twice (once when I was 13 and again when I was 15) and both times we watched the sunrise over Haleakala crater followed by banana macadamia nut pancakes at Kula Lodge. YUM! A tradition I hope to keep with my own kids if we ever make it back to Maui! They are seriously the best pancakes I’ve ever had :)

  5. I love love love Kula! If we lived on Maui (which we might) I’d want to live Upcountry. Everywhere else is too hot for me. Looks like it was fun!

  6. Nice! I can’t wait to have the chance to explore more of Upcountry Maui.

I must say, that Kula Onion Soup looks sooooo good! Will have to try that myself one day! :)
