More white space

Sometimes you have to shut things down, clear the room, clear your head, your mind and find more white space.

My girlfriend that I work with has a series, 31 Days to More White Space. The concept is simple, really.

Clear the decks of all the extra things that are just taking up room or bogging you down and create more white space in your life. This can be physically or mentally.

I’m a big fan of this concept and have been over the past few months clearing the decks and making room for more white space so that I can focus on the things I do love doing and do them well.

So last week I shut down the blog. Took time off and redid it just a bit so that it too has more white space. It feels lighter, fresher and wakes up my senses when I get here.

So here’s to a new lighter, clean, minimalist look and more white space.

Where could you use a little more white space in your life? Share in the comments!

  1. Thank you Sarah! You inspired me to declutter! Especially now that summer is here, I want to have time and space to enjoy and do things with the kids. Trying to create more White Space before the kids get out of school!

  2. I like this idea. I am probably long overdue for clearing my deck… Inspiring :)

  3. I love it! We’ve been doing this at home without realizing it as we get ready for some home improvements. And an upshot of trying to find a document lot in a pile at work was the discovery of “brown space”. The actual color of my desk and meeting were unknown for quite some time. Surprise – they are a lovely shade of brown. :-).

I like the way you’ve thinking about this — it’s reframed my outlook. Xo

I am a big believer that less is more, and while I managed to get what I think is a great balance of white space on my blog, for some reason I always end up with more junk in real life haha! I’m gonna go check out that 31 days to white space right now :)

  5. We are all on this White Space train together, love it! Anne is my coach in this department, she’s amazing for helping me see through the clutter (in my head usually!), thanks Anne!

  6. I love White Space when reading. I am also decluttering my house. My mom thinks I am insane, as I move out big pieces and exchange them for smaller (or no) pieces. But it’s working – helps me breathe.

  7. Sarah,
I am a huge fan of this concept! I totally believe in minimizing clutter in our lives both mentally and physically. It can be as simple as only having 1 shampoo and 1 lotion in your bathroom. Why would you need qty. 5+ containers! Less is more in many cases and allows us to focus on what we enjoy! Love the post and thanks for sharing :)

  8. LOVE it! I’m doing the same thing!!! (Seems I’m always re-grouping & simplifying…because it feels soooo good and keeps me sane & happy)

  9. This was so exciting for me to see this morning! Thanks for the White Space shout out! I LOVE IT! I want more pics of you and the family in paradise…THAT alone gives me white space when I need it!

  10. I think I could use a bit more white space in my life during the day when I’m home with my kid on my own – always trying to juggle getting a million things done vs. quality time with the kids… it’s tricky to find the right balance!
