Sledding, Maui-style

It’s 75 degrees out, not a snowball in sight.  Hot Cocoa is enjoyed in the air conditioned coffee shop or a red & green shave ice is had instead.  Our town’s Christmas tree is a Banyan…the largest Banyan in the U.S! We make sand angels instead of snow angels, we wear leis instead of scarves and Santa throws a shaka and rides in on an outrigger with sea turtles as his reindeer.

That’s Christmas in Hawaii!

Merry Christmas Sarah! I love my snow covered roofs and sledding and all the things that come with a midwest Christmas, but wow, Hawaii looks like it might make me forget about all that…

We would LOVE a white Christmas next year! My kids have never seen the snow! So we’re hoping to make that happen soon! Merry Christmas Kim!

I’ve never had a warm Christmas… well that’s not true. We’ve had a few Christmases that were in the 60′s, but mostly it’s quite cold. This year we are lucky enough to have snow… Moanna loves it. I hate snow, but am excited for Moanna… I could use a Hawaiian Christmas now and then…

Mele Kalikimaka! I have a picture of myself in front of that Santa, as well as my daughter. We usually go to Maui roughly every 4 years for Christmas, but this makes year 4 since we were there last, and instead we are snowed in at home. I haven’t been feeling the Christmas mood, I think listening to Mele Kalikimaka may help. Thanks!

Sarah, lovely to find this today! My husband & I have opted out of our Canadian Christmas this year and moved to Oahu for the winter – it was always a dream of mine to have Christmas in Hawaii, and I’m finally living it. The sparkle is so much prettier with the surf and sun, I think. :) Your blog + story is inspiring. Mele Kalikimaka!

Where is Santa with the turtles? I’ve only seen Santa with the dolphins at Whalers. My son loves turtles, I’d love to show him.

Haven’t seen one, just made that part of my Hawaiian Christmas story because I love the honu too.
