Movie Under the Stars at Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort

We had the coolest evening the other night! Our friends are staying at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort so we’ve been heading over there all week for some swim time and dinner with friends.  The other night, after swimming in the pirate pool – complete with a pirate ship, slides and cannons shooting water (look for my video on that soon), we headed over to the grass lawn to watch a movie under the stars.

Before the feature they did s’mores.  Each bag, holding one Hershey chocolate bar, 4 marshmallows and two graham crackers costs $5, but it’s worth it to see the kids enjoy this yummy treat.  They had tiny bbqs set up for the kids to do the marshmallow baking – which was safer than the large fire pit they  also on the lawn.

After some gooey marshmallow eating we headed over and laid down our blankets in front of this giant inflatable screen.  Tied between two palm trees…you definitely knew you were in Hawaii!

The sun went down and the stars started coming out over-head.  With the ocean waves crashing on one side of us and the gorgeous resort on the other it was movie time under the stars!

It was such a fun family outing - made me feel like a kid again!  Thanks to our friends for inviting us!

Are you traveling soon? (hello?! #blogher ladies!) This is a MUST DO!

Ok, I don’t want to put a damper on all of our planning fun for Blogher 09…yes, shopping for cute shoes and pretty dresses is fantastic fun, I’ll admit.  But there’s just a little something that you should do before head off to Blogher (aren’t you so excited?!  Me too!)

It only takes 10 minutes at the most.  What is it?  No, it’s not a waxing of your upper lip or eyebrows.  It’s not a do it yourself hair color or downloading must have music for that car trip to Chicago.

No, it’s creating a legal doc that tells the world exactly what should happen to your kids if something should, god forbid, happen to you!

This isn’t just for when you are traveling, but when a vacation or travel comes up, it’s a reminder to get your shit stuff in order.

This program, is so super easy and created by one of my Blogher sponsors, Alexis Martin Neely, a wonderful California attorney and mom-entrepreneur!  Here’ a bit more about this…read up then go make your own….NOW!

Kids Protection Plan
You know what your mama always told you…be sure to wear clean underwear!  In other words, be prepared!  And nothing is more true or more important than being prepared should something happen to you and/or your spouse.  You want to make sure that your wishes are carried through and that your children are taken care of…right?

Well, then you will want to head over to KidsProtectionPlan.com ASAP and take 10 minutes to create an easy-to-fill-out document that states who should get custody of your children should anything happen to you.  This isn’t just about if you die, but what if you were in the hospital for some time, who would take care of your children?  Be prepared!

I did this super simple process the other day and was amazed at how easy creator and attorney Alexis Martin Neely, makes it for parents to have a sound plan in place.  Alexis walks you through the process via video and with clearly written instructions. After 10 minutes I had a document all ready to print out and sign in front of witnesses and now my children and their well being, should anything happen to me, are covered!  Head on over to http://kidsprotectionplan.com/ to get yourself covered too! Thanks Alexis!

GO NOW!

Takes 10 minutes and is more important than any accessory, dress or lip color that you are contemplating on taking to blogher (and I know you’ve spent more than ten minutes thinking about that stuff, ladies! Me too ;) ).

P.S. Alexis is sending me to Blogher with 10 copies of her book, “Wear Clean Underwear: A Fast, Fun, Friendly (and essential) Guide to Legal Planning for Busy Parents”.  Be sure to come and find me for your copy!! Thank you Alexis!!

Peek Into Paradise…The Sugar Cane Train, Lahaina

If you come to Maui and especially if you visit the West side of Maui, with your kiddos, you must ride the Sugar Cane Train in Lahaina! This steam engine is a fun way to see Lahaina with fantastic views of Kaanapali, the west Maui mountains and of our neighboring islands, Lanai and Molokai.  It goes slow enough to take everything in and be safe but it goes fast enough to offer a slight breeze during a hot summer day.  It’s a great way to escape the heat, get under cover away from the sun and to feel like you are on the Island of Sodor. Your kids will love it!

You can bring snacks or buy a snack pack when you buy your ticket for about $8 (which isn’t too bad considering it saves you having to run to the store and comes with a water, trail mix, fruit gummies, cheese and crackers, and some other goodies).

Along the ride, the conductor, shares stories and facts about Lahaina & Maui.  It’s a fun time for all ages but a grand slam for the keiki!  They will love feeling like they have been riding with Thomas and Friends!

Here’s a video with some pics and a cool video at the end showing the train letting off some steam…the kids love this!

Pricing…(you can also find coupons many times, in the touristy magazines found around town, at grocery stores and activity rentals centers)

Passenger Daily Monthly Pass
Adults $22.50 (Round Trip) $40.00
Children (3-12 yrs.) $15.50 (Round Trip) $25.00
