Have some fun with Jacquard’s Funky Tie Dye Kit! {review & giveaway!}

Posted on 20. Aug, 2009 by Sarah in Cool Finds, Life

The day I was leaving for Blogher, I had packed and was hanging with the kids.  I wanted to do something really fun before I headed out of town for 4 days (in other words “Mommy Guilt” was in full effect).  I thought, ooh, let’s do that tie dye kit I got to review from Jacquard!  Yeah, that’ll be fun!

And it was!  Although, I really hadn’t thought it through and forgot to put the gloves on that they give you and well, I was caught red handed…literally!  The dye is awesome and really stays vibrant…even on hands…so beware and follow all directions and put on those gloves!

This was a fun project to do with the kids.  Cam is 4.5 and Leah is 2 so it was a tad bit advanced for them.  But Cameron helped me put the rubber-bands around their shirts and he was my mixing master, with the duty of stirring the concoction that you have to do to pre-treat the shirts.  All in all it took us about 20 minutes to get the dye on the shirts.  And although they had little to no patience for waiting to see their shirts (you have to let them sit over night),  when they did they were in awe that we had made a plain ol white t-shirt into this magical, funky, cool new colorful shirt!

The kit comes with everything you need, which is my kind of kit! You just need a shirt and you are good to go! We recycled some white tees we had but weren’t wearing, so I got to teach about recycling too!

Here’s what’s included in Jacquard’s Funky Groovy Tie Dye Kit that we received to review:

My ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY is coming up! Subscribers…this is for YOU!

Posted on 20. Jun, 2009 by Sarah in Life

The winner is…..thriftyandchic!  I’ll be emailing you to find out what goodies from Hawaii you’d like!  Thanks to everyone for reading The Ohana Mama! ~Sarah

In one week on June 27th, it will have been one year since my very first post on The Ohana Mama (formerly known as Ohana Mama Blog).

How it all Began!

My first post, and what started me on this journey, was for a product that I am still using daily with my kids and am still sharing with parents, both online and offline, Dapper Snappers!  Chelle, the creator of Dapper Snappers, gave out samples to a bunch of other mompreneurs on mompreneursonline.com and asked us for feedback (she is a SMART cookie…one of the many successful and inspiring mom entrepreneurs I have met through Ohana Mama).  I took a pic of my son wearing it (she still uses him as one of her models on her site), sent her my testimonial (it’s also still on her site) and then shared it with my mommy friends on The Mamasphere (formerly BabyTalkBio).  And then I put it on the brand spankin’ new Ohana Mama Blog. And the rest is history! It’s been a great ride.

CELEBRATE! To celebrate my one year I am giving away an ALOHA PACKAGE filled with goodies from my town.  And I’m giving it away to one of my subscribers…the folks that get my posts directly to their inbox or in their readers.  It’s my way of saying MAHALO!

So what do you need to do? If you subscribe?  Not a thing!  Just keep on enjoying The Ohana Mama.

If you don’t currently subscribe but find yourself visiting my site regularly, why not pop in your email address and get the aloha delivered to your box every day? (the sign up box is in my sidebar) Then you too could be entered to win the ALOHA PACKAGE! (contents to be determined….but it’ll be goodies from Hawaii!)

If you have time or feel so inclined, leave me a comment to let me know you are part of my Ohana and let me know what you like or don’t like.

I’ll pick someone at random on June 27th, the day of my anniversary, to win the ALOHA CARE PACKAGE!

MAHALO & ALOHA for reading The Ohana Mama, leaving comments and being part of this awesome last year!!!

“If you have plans to head to the beach this Summer, you have GOT to see this bag! The WannaBe from Ju-Ju-Be can be purchased from Let’s Go Strolling and is probably the most perfect beach bag I have ever seen!

So, the WannaBe and BeMine bags are great for summer outdoor activities, but what happens when it rains? Be sure to have some fun activities on hand to entertain the kids!

Who doesn’t love Play-Doh?? The kids (and Mom, too!) can have hours of fun making a yummy Play-Doh spaghetti with The Spaghetti Factory!”

And from 3 Garnets & 2 Sapphires…

RoxStar Designs is a boutique that specializes in felt play foods, but is now slowly expanding into cloth diapers and handmade toys. This boutique gladly welcomes custom orders.

Now for the music . . . The “Sweets ‘n’ Treats” children’s music CD by Tracey Singer is scheduled to be available to the public on July 7th, 2009. If you listen to samples on TraceySinger.com, you will find that the songs on this CD have a touch of everything . . . from oldies to folk, from jazz to easy listening. Tracey’s CD is perfect for our block party because there are quite a few songs on it about summertime.”

Stay tuned, more awesome block party prizes are coming your way every day of the week this week!

Have fun!
